Can Macron the Thatcherite be beaten? John Mullen reports from Paris (updated version of article : 24.09.17) Emmanuel Macron, elected president of France last May, and whose party won a working majority of over 60 seats in the parliamentary elections in June, is starting off the new political year with a bang, hoping to push through a series of Thatcherite reforms without a social explosion. But a new political movement is facing him in the shape of the France Insoumise, and the workers’ organizations are not going to lie down and take it.
